Evan Miller ’08
Evan MillerClass of 2008, marketing and hospitality management major
Arlington, Ohio

Three internships, a variety of extracurricular activities and a competitive drive make for an excellent résumé and a well-rounded college graduate.

Evan Miller, an Arlington, Ohio, native, is a senior marketing and hospitality management major. Throughout his UF career, Miller has been active in Marketing Club and Hospitality Management Club, and served as a peer mentor for First-Year Experience classes and a registration and orientation leader.

In addition, Miller found a way to feed his competitive drive through intramural sports, with his sport of choice being flag football.

Evan MillerIn addition to his extracurricular activities, Miller also completed three internships. Miller’s hospitality management internship with The Westin Hotel in Hilton Head, S.C., is the one Miller feels gave him the best experience. Miller’s other internships were with Marathon Petroleum Co. and Enterprise Rent-A-Car, both in Findlay.

“These three internships have given me industry experience, even before I graduate, that I can use as a competitive advantage over other graduates when competing for a full-time position,” said Miller.

S. Chris Ward, Ed.D., assistant professor in the College of Business, commented on Miller’s ability to be professional. “Evan submits quality work, maintains a professional attitude and is able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. He is comfortable in a team as either a leader or a contributing member,” she said.

Miller speaks highly of Ward, as well. Miller says Ward’s energy and “think-outside-the-box” teaching techniques in marketing kept him motivated and interested in the field.

Miller says his choice to attend UF was a great one. The small campus has allowed him to get the most out of his college experience.

When asked his favorite memory from his college years, he found it difficult to pick just one. However, Miller did note the invaluable relationships that he has built with other students around campus and the solid skills he has gained that will be important both in life and in his career.
