Earlier this spring, students and faculty members from the College of Pharmacy were asked to participate in Medication Collection Day, a joint effort of the City of Findlay Health Department, Water Pollution Control and the Findlay City Police Department, as well as the Hancock County Community Partnership and the University. “The oldest thing I saw was something that had to have been at least 40 years old,” said Donald Stansloski, R.Ph., Ph.D., dean of the College of Pharmacy. He also noted that many medications were much more recent. At Stansloski’s station, students confirmed that tablets matched the package label and counted the number of tablets. Stansloski entered that data into a computer system. Three barrels full of discarded drugs were collected that day, which is thousands of unused medications.
