Homecoming Wrap-Up 2009

Homecoming weekend Oct. 2-3 kicked off with an energetic performance by Recycled Percussion, the same group that was recently seen on “America’s Got Talent” television show.

Following the concert, all were invited to watch a fireworks display on campus.

Saturday morning activities began with the annual 5K and Little Oiler Fun Run. The male overall race winner was Aaron Beach with a time of 16:34, and the overall female was Alice Essinger with a time of 20:17. The first place alumnus was Matt Gillman with a time of 18:27, and the first place alumna was Morgan Greeno with a time of 25:01. The first place male student was Tom Brown with a time of 19:50, and the first place female student was Kymry Brooks with a time of 21:47.

A ceremony, held Saturday morning on the steps of Shafer Library, announced the establishment of the Class of 1959 Scholarship Endowment Fund, which is fully endowed and is especially for an education major, and the Class of 1959 University Archives Endowment Fund, which will support the care and well-being of the archives. Additional gifts are needed to fully fund the archives endowment.

Later, alumni and students gathered on the front lawn of Old Main to watch the annual golf cart parade, vote on their favorite cookies baked by student organization members and mix and mingle with friends.

At the football game Saturday afternoon, the Oilers won 42-27 against Hillsdale College.

During halftime, the Homecoming court nominees were announced, and Dane Allard and Shana Schnipke were named king and queen.
