Monday, August 24, 2009

painting by SaulnierPaintings by Dana Saulnier will be on display Aug. 24 – Sept. 25 at The University of Findlay’s Lea Gallery, located inside the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion.

An artist’s reception will be 5:30 – 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in the gallery.

Saulnier was born in Boston and resides in Ohio. An avid reader of history, philosophy and the psychology of perception, Saulnier began making art while spending his days doing construction and remodeling work. After filling his living spaces with art, he eventually returned to his educational background; he received degrees in painting from the University of Cincinnati and Cornell.

Saulnier’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States and in Europe. He has participated in more than 75 exhibitions, including more than 20 solo exhibitions.

Phenomenological perspectives on space and time have been decisive for the development of Saulnier’s art. His paintings manage both an immediate visceral response and a slow meditative crawl through complex and suggestive allusions to passing time. Elegy and enigma characterize paintings where bodily presences tip, spill, grow and decay within lushly painted claustrophobic environments.
