The Ohio Scholastic Media Association
will hold a media day from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at The
University of Findlay, beginning in the Alumni Memorial Union.
It is open to any high school student
in northwest Ohio who is interested in a media career.
The students will spend the day attending
seminars and gaining hands-on experience in how to design newspapers by using
InDesign and Photoshop. New this year, students will also have the chance to
work with campus radio station WLFC in broadcast newswriting.
Communication
majors at The University of Findlay will be on hand to help and serve as tutors
for the event.
“This is a day for the students to see
what it is like being in the media department in college,” said Chris
Underation, assistant professor of communication, “and it also allows them to
mingle with other high school students with the same interest.”
The University of Findlay is the
northwest Ohio regional office for the Ohio Scholastic Media Association. Last
year, more than 100 high school students attended the media open house.
Communication majors at The University of
Findlay work side-by-side with faculty mentors for cross training in real-world,
rich media settings. The Pulse, WLFC, UFTV and PRSSA are award-winning
crucibles for communication majors studying digital media, health
communication, journalism, organizational communication and public relations.
