Umoja and Ujima Houses
The
Umoja
("
unity")
and
Ujima
("cooperation")
facilitities are two ethnic houses on campus that serve as places of residence for selected upperclassmen of color. The Umoja house provides living quarters for men and the Ujima house for the women. Traditional programs at the houses have included movies, cookouts, receptions and dinners just to name a few during the academic year. The houses are furnished by the University and include sleeping quarters, a television, a washer/dryer and dining facilities. These houses have been very successful in providing a family atmosphere by creating camaraderie, closeness and support for our students of color.
