Program Overview
The Master of Arts in Rhetoric and Writing (MARW) Program is a two-year (36 credit hour) face-to-face program that can be completed sooner if you choose to enroll in summer classes. Our program offers students the flexibility to take classes full or part-time and applications to our program are accepted year-round. So, you can enroll and begin taking classes in the fall, spring, or summer.
The courses that you will take to complete 36 hours include eight core classes, two elective classes, and two thesis capstone classes that culminate in the successful defense of either a traditional print or a webtext thesis project.
Graduate assistantship funding is available for teaching, research, and administrative duties and all MARW students who applied for positions received them.
All MARW students applying before May 1 each year are eligible for assistantship funding to teach College Writing I or II, Introduction to Technical Writing, Introduction to Speech, or Introduction to Digital Media. MARW students can also apply to tutor students in the Graduate Writing Center.
All of our MARW teaching and tutoring assistants are fully trained at a summer teaching orientation as well as weekly meetings with faculty mentors.

The University of Findlay's Master of Arts in Rhetoric and Writing is a
high quality, face-to-face, rigorous graduate program with strong faculty support for students. It is our mission to make
every class session you attend worthwhile and productive. We believe that our students benefit from experiential learning and offer funding for conferences and off-campus field trips. All students are prepared to present at conferences and publish journal articles as a result.
Unlike many other English master degrees, we focus on your writing in addition to preparing you for a career in teaching, editing, publishing, business, or other fields. One of the courses offered, Graduate Study in Writing, focuses on teaching students to write more effectively, and the core classes provide regular feedback on your print and digital compositions. We partner with Prolifiko to offer writing productivity support.
All
MARW core courses focus on digital communication and writing. We teach all students to make webpages using Dreamweaver and Adobe Creative Suite, videos using iMovie and Windows Moviemaker Live, and podcasts using a range of audio composing software. You will learn to compose in both print and digital environments and your thesis can be a traditional print thesis or a digital webtext.
We emphasize career or graduate school preparation. Every fall, the MARW Program hosts a Career Speaker Series as part of ENGL 500: Introduction to the Field of Rhetoric and Writing. Through the Career Speaker series, MARW students learn about the wide range of employment and educational opportunities available to program graduates and have professional networking opportunities.
Students learn from leaders in the rhetoric and writing field. Our Visiting Scholar program ensures all MARW students have several days of intensive instruction from leaders and journal editors in the field of rhetoric and writing. Past speakers have included Dr. Duane Roen, Dr. Kristine Blair, and Dr. Cindy Selfe. Upcoming speakers include Dr. Donnie Sackey and Dr. Cheryl Ball. In addition, we have a partnership with the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies where students learn from leading classics scholars and can take trips through the center to Greece, Italy, and Turkey.

As a graduate student at UF, you are eligible to apply for loans through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program.
Through the federal program, you can obtain federal funds directly from

Federal Loan Programs
Stafford
Loan Program - If you file a FAFSA and are enrolled at least half-time,
you may qualify for a Stafford Loan, which is a long-term, low-interest
loan.
As a graduate student, you may borrow up to $20,500 in
Federal Direct Loans each year. The FAFSA and your cost of education
will determine how much you can borrow. Your enrollment level also plays
a role in your loan eligibility, but you must be enrolled at least
half-time, which is at least four and one-half (4.5) hours of credit in a
term.
Graduate PLUS Loans - You may also have the option of
applying for a Graduate PLUS loan if your unsubsidized loan does not
cover all of your educational costs.

You may wish to consider one of the alternative loans that
are available to graduate students in lieu of the Direct GradPLUS Loan.
As the borrower, you must initiate the loan, which must subsequently be
certified by the Office of Financial Aid. Generally, you must be
creditworthy, and a cosigner must be creditworthy as well. While you may
be able to borrow without a cosigner, having a cosigner may reduce the
fees and/or the interest rate on the loan. A careful review of interest
rates and their trends may be of value as you decide whether the Direct
Grad PLUS or the alternative loan is the right choice for you. Please

Employer Reimbursement
For
many graduate students, employer reimbursement is a good option to help
cover the cost of your education. If your company offers employer
reimbursement, you must contact the University's
Business Office to complete the University's Company Reimbursement Form prior to each session you enroll in.
