Accounting is essential to all public, private and governmental entities. It is practiced in every organization and enterprise in the world, and accountants play a key role. Students who choose to study accounting at the University of Findlay graduate with more than just a basic understanding of accounting - they understand the business as a whole. They earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting, which provides them with the foundational skills and in-depth knowledge required to be successful in the world of business.

Program Highlights​

  • Experienced Faculty - Faculty members are active professionals within the accounting field.
  • Course options include evening and online courses - Fit classes into a busy schedule of work and extracurricular activities. 
  • Valuable Internships - Internships are encouraged throughout the program in order to gain practical experience and professional networking.
  • Stay on track with faculty advisers - Each student is assigned a faculty adviser to help plan his or her curriculum, provide academic counseling and assist in career preparation
  • Courses that exceed Ohio Certified Public Accountant (CPA) academic requirements - If interested in obtaining the CPA license, you can join the CPA track program, which combines an undergraduate degree specializing in accounting with an MBA (4+1) program. If you’re interested in sitting for the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) exam, you may take it as an upperclassman upon recommendation of your adviser or upon graduation.​ 
  • Mentorship program with community partners - Mentoring and shadowing provide real-world knowledge and networking opportunities. Accounting freshmen and sophomores are paired with juniors and seniors, while juniors and seniors have a professional in the field as a mentor for career advice and guidance. ​

Associate's Degree

At Findlay, you can earn an associate of arts degree in two years. Through coursework you will gain an understanding of the theory and practice of accounting. This two-year program is coordinated with four-year degree programs so that all courses will count toward a four-year program.

At Findlay, you can earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an Accounting Emphasis. You also have the opportunity to choose to double-major in another emphasis or minor in a variety of areas such as finance, international business, or marketing. This allows you to focus in on subjects that best fit your career goals.

Master's Degree

The University of Findlay's Master of Business Administration (MBA) offers a number of concentrations that allow you to individualize your program to fit your interests and career needs. You can earn your MBA by taking courses on-campus, online or in a hybrid of both. In accounting, Findlay offers the following MBA concentrations:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
The Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a license that authorizes the holder to practice as a certified public accountant in the jurisdiction in which the license is issued. Findlay's MBA Program offers the preparation you need to sit for the CPA exam. Additional highlights of the CPA concentration include:

  • Earn a bachelor's degree in accounting and master's degree in business administration in only five year
  • You can take up to two CPA review classes and potentially pass half of the CPA exam
  • Internship opportunities will allow you to log experience toward the 2,000-hour requirement to earn a CPA
  • Students accepted into the CPA track program will have a CPA as a professional mentor
  • Earn approximately $135,000 annually with a CPA certification


Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation is a license issued by the Institute of Management Accountant (IMA) that authorizes the holder to practice as a certified management accountant. This certification establishes and maintains a standard of professional competence within the profession, with the ultimate aim of protecting the public. Findlay's CMA concentration will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully sit for the CMA exam. Additional highlights of the CMA concentration include:
  • Findlay's CMA program has received IMA's Higher Education Endorsement
  • Findlay's business-oriented courses will provide knowledge required for the CMA exam such as planning, analysis, control and decision support
  • Earn approximately $27,000 more annually with a CMA

Recipients of the CMA Scholarships will receive a comprehensive package of benefits enabling them to study for and take the CMA exam at no cost. The benefits include:

-Entrance fee to the CMA program

-Exam Support Package

-Registration fees for the first attempt at both parts of the CMA exam

-Wiley CMAexcel test bank access for up to 2 years (all regions, except China and India)

​Outside of the Classroom

Networking and hands-on learning opportunities at Findlay are endless. Here are a few ways our students gain experience outside of the classroom:

Accounting Club     
The Institute of Managerial Accounting (IMA) Student Club at Findlay furthers the objectives of the IMA on the student level. The IMA provides an environment for research, practice improvement, education, knowledge sharing and the encouragement of high ethical and business practices in management accounting and finance.     

IMA Accounting Honor Society     
The IMA Accounting Honor Society (IAHS) recognizes and honors academic achievement in the study of accounting and provides an opportunity for students to differentiate themselves as they begin their career journey. IAHS membership is available to all students who meet the eligibility criteria.       

Dana Scholars     
The University of Findlay College of Business Dana Chair/Scholar Program provides business students the opportunity to connect higher education with the real world of business. Dana Scholars are chosen each semester by the College of Business faculty and are recognizes as outstanding students for their academic and leadership skills. Dana Scholars network with and learn from an area business professional who serves as the Dana Chair for the academic year.
