Types of Financial Aid Available from University of Findlay

The University of Findlay offers several kinds of financial support to new and returning students including merit, endowed and athletic scholarships, as well as grants and loans through federal student aid and the State of Ohio.

Students who plan on using financial aid are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. A student’s FAFSA is used to determine grant and loan amounts to the cost of attending college. These funds come from a variety of federal, state, and institutional sources. Even if a student does not believe they will be eligible for any financial aid they should complete this form The University of Findlay uses this application to award institutional aid which is more generous than federal and state sources. All students who complete the FAFSA will also qualify for Federal Direct Loans up to an annual limit based on their dependency status and class standing regardless of credit history. The FAFSA application is also required for those families that plan on using Federal Direct PLUS loans or participating in the Federal Work Study program.

The Office of Financial Aid will process FAFSA applications for those applied and admitted to the University of Findlay. Students that do not require any additional steps will receive a financial aid award. Those that have additional steps needed to complete the process will be assigned next steps called “action items”. Prospective students can view their award or action items through the applicant site. Current and returning students can log into Workday to view their awards or outstanding action items.

Institutional Aid

The main sources of financial aid from the University of Findlay are scholarships. Scholarships are a type of financial aid that do not have to be repaid. Students will continue to receive this as long as they are registered full-time undergraduates.

UF Merit Scholarships

New students are awarded merit scholarships based on their incoming GPA. For first-time freshman this GPA is from the final high school transcript and for new transfer students this would be the weighted GPA from other colleges. Eligibility is based on a few conditions:

  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Full-time, regular tuition charge
  • Guaranteed to students regardless of UF GPA as long as student is not suspended.
  • Students are eligible to pause enrollment and continue receiving this scholarship upon return along with meeting the other criteria.
  • Locked in at time of admission and not reviewed.

Although UF has a strong commitment to supporting students there are some notable exclusions for the merit scholarship:

  • Students in the BSBM program receive reduced rate tuition and do not qualify for additional merit scholarships.
  • Students participating in the professional year of the Sonography program are not eligible for institutional aid during the professional year.
  • Students participating in the professional year for Nuclear Medicine Institute or Echocardiography receive institutional aid for their didactic term only.
  • The traditional Doctor of Physical Therapy program provides undergraduate aid for the first three undergraduate years only.

UF Endowed Scholarships

UF offers hundreds of endowed scholarships every year to returning students. Endowed scholarships will be awarded to UF students based on the most current information on their academic record and FAFSA application at the time of awarding. Click here for a complete list of endowed scholarships.

Although most scholarships are awarded to returning students, UF understands that incoming students may need additional support. UF offers a commitment to support new students through the UF Donor Grant. Students can receive this award as a freshman and it will renew as long as the student is a full-time undergraduate student until the student is paired with one of our generous donors. The UF Donor Grant will be matched with an endowed or operating scholarship. We simply ask that each awardee take time to write a “thank you” letter showing how important these funds are students.

  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Need-based grant provided to students until other scholarship funding sources (e.g., institutional, donor, or outside foundation) can be located.

UF Program Grant

Students awarded need-based funding based on their specific program of study (Pharmacy Grant) must remain as full-time students in that program. This UF Program Grant will be removed once Financial Aid is notified of change in eligibility.

Federal aid comes in the form of loans: Federal Direct Subsidized, Federal Direct Unsubsidized, and Federal PLUS loan programs. Federal aid also comes in the form of employment through the work study program.

An estimated award will be listed for you if we think you will be eligible.

Students are required to meet several criteria while in-school to be eligible for this grant and must complete service requirements as a teacher. If a student does not meet the service requirements this grant will become a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
