Resources available at Findlay
Findlay's Office of Service and Community Engagement has many resources available to faculty as they design the academic service-learning components of their classes. The director has multiple connections with local non-profit agencies, educational institutions, and religious organizations and assists faculty with identifying community needs that can be met by their classes. Also, syllabi and service-learning design assistance is available. A service-learning library is located in the Office of Service and Community Engagement to assist faculty with the design of service-learning classes, and books and materials can be loaned to faculty. The director also visits classes to discuss the differences between volunteer initiatives and academic service-learning with students.
Risk Management and Learning Agreements within Academic Service-Learning Courses
In order to ensure the rights and responsibilities of both students and community agencies in the academic service-learning process, The University of Findlay has waivers which should be completed by students and community groups when agreeing on an academic service-learning placement. Instructors should keep originals of these forms and copies should be sent to the Office of Service and Community Engagement via intercampus mail. Please contact the office at 419-434-6671 for information about these waivers.
