Can my financial aid help cover the cost of the insurance charge?Financial Aid can be used to pay for the insurance after tuition, mandatory fees, housing, and meal plans are paid AND you give UF permission to use your aid in this way.
The policy provides coverage for an entire year. What if I graduate in May?The University of Findlay Student Insurance Plan insures covered students for the full period for which they’ve paid premium, so long as they remain eligible students for at least 31 days after the effective date of coverage. This means that if you withdraw from school for any reason after that period, your health insurance won’t be taken away from you. It also means that if you want to terminate your insurance after that period, you won’t be able to get a refund of premium that you’ve paid. This structure is intended to be fair to students in both situations and is very common in student plans in higher education.
The policy provides coverage for an entire year. What if I am in my home country during school breaks? What if I am studying abroad? The plan has global emergency services only. Students should purchase other travel insurance if looking for more international coverage while abroad.
What do I do if I forgot to waive but have other valid health insurance coverage?Students may submit an appeal to the University for review and consideration no later than August 28, 2024. Please forward a copy of your proof of insurance along with a brief explanation of why you feel you should be granted an exception to the UF insurance requirement to the UF Student Health Insurance Plan email (
[email protected]).
Can I add my dependents (such as a child) to the health insurance plan?Students may not add their dependents, such as their spouse or child, to the student health insurance plan. Other options for dependent coverage may be found at www.healthcare.gov.
My wavier was denied. Can I appeal this decision? If you would like to appeal the denial of your waiver, please forward a copy of your proof of insurance along with a brief explanation of why you feel you should be granted an exception to the UF insurance requirement to UF Student Health Insurance (
[email protected]). Please note, if your wavier is denied, you will receive an email notification from UHCSR providing the instructions mentioned above.
My need for coverage has changed. Can I enroll mid-year?Students can enroll in the student health insurance plan if a change in coverage or qualifying life event (QLE) occurs. Examples of a QLE include the following:
- Change in marital status.
- Loss of employment.
- Loss of insurance coverage.
- Turning age 26.
Can I enroll in vision and dental plans?Students may inquire about vision and dental plans offered by UnitedHealthcare. To purchase voluntary coverage, please visit https://www.uhone.com/uhcsr and select University of Findlay. Please note, vision and dental plans will be at an additional cost for the student and will be charged directly to the student (not through their UF student account). How do I know if my alternative health insurance will be accepted as qualifying coverage? In order to waive the University of Findlay Student Insurance Plan, and have the related charge removed from their billing statement, students’ alternate coverage must:
- Satisfy Ohio and Federal (Affordable Care Act) minimum benefit requirements, and
- Be in effect for the full period for which they will attend classes during the 2023-24 school year, and
- Be locally effective (out-of-state Medicaid is not valid coverage), and
- Be underwritten by a U.S. Domestic insurance carrier (a carrier that is based, licensed and operating in the U.S.).
*An important change is being made to the waiver form process. Individuals must meet the four published requirements* or the student's waiver will be automatically denied. Over the last two academic years, the University has noticed individuals submitting substandard coverage, including policies that do not meet the Affordable Care Act minimum benefit requirements and are not underwritten by a U.S. Domestic insurance carrier. For this reason, insurance policies from the following carriers will be automatically denied:
Bajaj Allianz, Berkshire Hathaway Travel, Bupa Global, Edelweiss General Insurance, Global Benefits Group (GBG) Limited Insurance, Golden Rule (medical insurance), ICICI Lombard, IMG, ISO – International Student Health Insurance, Molina Healthcare, TATA AIG, Zolve Student Health Insurance.
*In order to waive the University of Findlay Student Insurance Plan, and have the related charge removed from their billing statement, student's alternate coverage must meet the requirements listed above.
