Jeffrey L. Frye, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Chemistry Year started at UF: 1991 Contact Information Office Location: Old Main Room 307 Telephone: 419-434-5377 Email: [email protected] Credentials B.S., Biochemistry, Juniata College, 1985 Ph.D., Chemistry, Miami University-Oxford, 1990 ProfileActivitiesPublications Dr. Frye received his BS degree in biochemistry from Juniata College (Huntingdon, PA) in 1985 and his PhD in chemistry from Miami University (Oxford, OH) in 1990. Upon receiving his doctorate, he accepted a post-doctoral position at The Medical College of Ohio (Toledo, OH - currently, The University of Toledo Medical Center) studying the chemoprevention of chemical carcinogenesis. In 1991, he accepted a full-time position at The University of Findlay (UF) teaching organic chemistry and biochemistry.Since his tenure at UF, he has: taught every chemistry course offered on main campus, developed several chemistry courses, developed the current BS degree in chemistry, served as director of the natural science area, served as chair of the department of physical sciences, and is currently dean for the college of sciences. He also has served and chaired numerous faculty committees and has been a multi-term member of UF's faculty senate. His non-academic activities have included coaching and playing on UF's lacrosse club team, involvement in planning and coordinating several science related events, and development of an agricultural analytical institute. His research interests include: enzyme kinetic studies, absorption of organic substances by plant root systems, herbicide development against Calystegia, derivatives of commercial polymers, and toxicological/pharmaceutical elimination via hair.Honor and Professional Societies:American Association for the Advancement of ScienceAmerican Chemical Society – Division of Biological ChemistryNational Science Teachers Association – Society of College Science TeachersThe Ohio Academy of ScienceSigma XiThe Honor Society of Phi Kappa PhiPhi Sigma Sigma Sorority Outstanding Professor 1999 – 2000Gamma Theta Phi – Miami University Chemistry HonoraryGeneral Chemistry Teaching Assistant of the YearGraduate Student Achievement AwardAcademic Adviser: Hazardous Materials Management Program Environmental and Hazardous Material Management Chemistry (and Pre-medicine option)Athletic CommitteeAssessment Steering Committee – ChairCOB/CAHSS/COS Advisory BoardCollege of Sciences Curriculum CommitteeCommuter Club AdviserEndowed Scholarship Committee – three terms of serviceExecutive Committee of Phi Kappa Phi – two terms of serviceFaculty Search Committees for chemistry, physics, and biologyFaculty Senate – two terms of serviceGeneral Education CommitteeHonors Advisory BoardInitiation Officer of Chapter 310 of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa PhiJudge and co-planner for Kannon Shot Ken(tm)Judge for Science OlympiadJudge for Symposium for Scholarship and CreativityMath and Chemistry Placement Task ForceNSF TUES NMR Grant SubmissionNSF S-STEM Grant Advisory CommitteeOhio Academy of Science 122nd Annual Steering CommitteeUniversity Chairs CouncilPresentations:Routson, A. and Frye, J.
