Dr. Griffiths joined the faculty in 2000 as an adjunct instructor and
became a fulltime professor in 2005. Prior to teaching she was
employed at a skilled nursing facility and home health agency where she
practiced for 8 years. She still
continues to practice in home health. During her years of practice, she gained experience
working with older adult clients with cognitive deficits, neurological and orthopedic diagnoses in both long term care and home health settings.
Dr. Griffiths has taught a wide variety of courses over the years, but has
focused mostly on courses which emphasize the evaluation and treatment of older
adults with physical and cognitive dysfunction, community practice,
documentation, and research. She teaches in both the traditional and weekend
college programs and enjoys interacting with both traditional and
non-traditional students.
- Scholarship
Over the course of the last few years Dr.
Griffiths has presented at the American Occupational Therapy
Association (AOTA) National Conference, and the Ohio Occupational
Therapy state conference. Her most recent national presentation took
place at the 2016 AOTA conference in Chicago, IL. This presentation was
entitled. "Using the Kawa Model to Guide Participation and OT Programming in the Community: An Initial Study." Her most recent local presentation (2015) was a panel presentation entitled, "Flipping the Classroom." This presentation was part of The University of Findlay Annual Teaching Symposium, Findlay, Ohio.
She continues to be involved with research that focuses on primary care, community programming and effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions with individuals with mental health issues and chronic diseases.
Activities
Dr. Griffiths has and continues to serve on numerous university and college committees over the last ten years. She currently serves on the Graduate Student Academic Standards Committee, and the OT Admissions Committee.
