All courses meet state and federal mandates.
Literacy with Special Needs Population (EDFI 535)
Reading strategies should be adaptable to fit the needs of any student, but often times students with mild to moderate disabilities require a more unique approach. Explore reading style techniques, selecting developmentally appropriate reading materials for inclusion settings and assessments specific to special education for use with your student with special needs.
Research in Reading (EDFI 543)
Data-driven decision making is finally having its day in education. Help your school stay up to date on current issues in the teaching of reading through investigating relevant research in areas such as the reading process, reading development, assessments, programs and professional development. We will utilize The International Reading Association Standards of the Preparation of Reading Professionals to organize and interpret research.
Literacy Assessment, Curriculum Alignment and Data Analysis (EDFI 650)
While classroom time is valuable, applying what you've learned in a real word setting is the best kind of learning. In this class, you will work with a district level literacy specialist to examine the process of short cycle assessment, progress monitoring, data analysis and curriculum alignment at the building and district level. You will also attend grade-level meetings at which teachers analyze their literacy assessment data and learn how to enter assessment data into one of the technology systems used in Ohio.
Internship: Reading Endorsement (EDFI 655)
This course helps students acquire the 50 hours of fieldwork required by the Ohio Department of Education for a Reading Endorsement. Fieldwork includes administering and interpreting assessment results, planning and implementing instruction based on assessment results and meeting with parents and teachers.
Topics in Reading Education (EDFI 665)
You made the choice to pursue an endorsement, we are going to give you the choice of what you want to learn. We will help you identify a topic you are truly passionate about and provide the opportunity for an in-depth study. Our teachers are versed in a variety of topics related to teaching reading and writing and can help you grow in your chosen area.
