Requirements
University of Findlay's Principal Licensure Program is for current teachers with their master's degree who are looking to grow in their career and lead their school building to success. This State Approved Principal Training leads to an Ohio Principal License and is for individuals who meet the following requirements:
- Completed two years of successful teaching under a professional teaching license
- Completed a master's degree
- Completed an approved educational administration program
- Passed the Ohio Assessments for Educators Education Leadership test #015
- Received the recommendation of the head of teacher education of the institution attended
- Passed a criminal background (FBI / BCI) check
The Master of Arts in Education Program serves as a stepping stone to obtain a principal license.
If you've earned your
Masters in Education with a focus in
educational administration from the University of Findlay, then you will only need to take the remaining three courses (9 hours) to earn a five-year professional principal license (courses listed below).
If you've received your master's degree from another institution then you will have to complete the 8 required courses and one internship for a total of 27 hours. Transfer credit will be reviewed.
If you need to complete your master's degree, you can do so through the University of Findlay by successfully completing a required core of 15 semester hours and 18 semester hours of electives selected from the required principal license coursework, for a total of 33 semester hours.
The Educational Administration curriculum covers topics such as educational leadership, supervision and professional development, research, instructional leadership, curriculum, school law, administration of special education, technology and assessment, internship, research, and community relations.

In addition, one internship is required and is offered fall, spring and summer (EDAD 582). Internships are to be completed at a state-approved public or private school.
