​Government Information

LogoShafer Library access is restricted to UF students, faculty, and staff until further notice. City of Findlay and Hancock County community members can contact the library by email or chat to receive ressearch assistance related to government information during this type.

​Shafer Library became a selective depository for U. S. government publications in 1969.  We maintain a small​ physical collection of government publications in print and microfiche formats. Research assistance is available to the public and the University community when the library is open​. 

The m​ajority​ of Federal and state government information are now available free on the web. Nearly all of the Basic Collection titles are available in electronic format. Anyone can access these online documents when in the library using the research stations on the second floor and the lower floor in Shafer Library. Wireless access is available for individuals using their own laptops, tablets, or smartphone.  
 

Locating Government Information

You can find both physical and electronic government publications in our collection by searching the UF/Winebrenner library catalog​. You can also use tools specifically designed to locate federal government information like Govinfo​ or GPO’s Federal Digital System (FDsys). Our Federal and State Government Resources page provides additional tools that can be used to find government information. 
 
Shafer Library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law. (Title 44 United States Code)
