The Buford Dialogues is a monthly program that provides an opportunity for members of the UF community to engage in meaningful discussion and be exposed to various current events and societal issues, as well as hear different perspectives about them. In a time of political and social polarization, it’s increasingly important to provide a space for civil discourse. The program was established in the spring of 2015. Since then, different topics of discussion have been selected each month. Last year’s discussions were based around the media’s impact on the presidential election, human trafficking and slavery, the state of education in America, and gender equality.
While the program is open to all, Intercultural Student Services invites speakers and attendees based upon the topic. For example, when discussing inequality in education, Findlay's College of Education faculty and students came to give the perspective of teachers in the field.
