Beef Cattle Show Team
The University of Findlay has one of the largest full-blood Lowline Angus herds in the region!
UF currently runs approximately 40 full-blood Lowline brood cows and has shown or sold at the state and national levels.
In the fall of 2012 UF acquired the entire Diamond J. Ranch full-blood herd. This acquisition included three national champion or reserve champion heifers and one of the greatest American bred Lowline bulls, Double J. The Brick 281. The Brick is a two-time national champion bull.
The goal of maintaining a full-blood Lowline herd is to provide our students with real world experiences in management, promotion and marketing. Students have the opportunity to join our Beef Cattle Show Team, assist with the cattle treatment and care and gain valuable knowledge with our Lowline herd.
UF's beef cattle show team consists of around 50-60 students. No previous experience is required. Students are required to go out to the farm at least one day per week to break the cattle to lead, wash the cattle, clip the cattle and feed the cattle.
The beef cattle team shows at three main shows throughout the year:
North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE),
National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado, and
Ohio Beef Expo.

Southdown Sheep Show Team
The University of Findlay's Southdown flock began at the end of 2010 with the purchase of a group of bred ewes from Mapolyne Farms. Later that spring, UF added several ewe lambs and a "Willy" son from Oldenburg Farms. By spring 2013, the university flock had grown to approximately 65 brood ewes and 5 stud rams.
UF's goal is to provide a significant hands-on experience to our students while exposing them to the important aspects of developing and maintaining a quality purebred sheep flock.
Students who join the team show during the summer months in Eaton, Ohio, Sedalia, Missouri and at the Ohio State Fair.
