  • Academic Credentials:

Doctor of Education with Specialization in Teaching and Learning, The University of Findlay
Master of Social Work, The Ohio State University
Bachelor of Social Work, Ball State University

I joined the University of Findlay as an adjunct instructor in the Social Work Program at The University of Findlay in the year 2000. I then served as the interim director of the program during the academic year of 2007-2008 and was then hired as Program Director in July,2008. I was appointed Chair of Social Work and Gerontology in June 2010.  We added the Substance Use Disorder Minor/Certificate in 2017 as a response to the expressed need of our community partners regarding the lack of professionals with specific training in addictions. In 2019, our program name changed to Social Work and Healthcare Services, which was a more comprehensive title that includes all the programs located under our department.  In addition to my duties at UF, I have also served as an associate adjunct professor in the Social Work program at Owens Community College since 2007.  As a Findlay native and experienced social worker, I feel that being in this position is an excellent fit. I enjoy giving back to the field in this manner and it is my sincere pleasure preparing the next generation of social workers for professional practice.

I did my undergraduate work at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where I graduated with my BSW in 1993. There I majored in the field of social work with minors in both psychology and sociology. I then went to Ohio State University, where I graduated with my MSW in 1996. My area of concentration was administrative social work with a specialization in children and families. I graduated with an additional master’s in Social Work Research and Program Evaluation from Wayne State University in 2014.  I completed my Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Leadership in Higher Education at the University of Findlay in Spring, 2016.  After obtaining my LISW-S in 1996, I can provide my students with yet another resource in their quest for the highest professional status in the field of social work.

My social work experience is broad and spans a vast majority of the population. I started as a social worker at Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY), working in foster care and adoptions. I served as Director of the Findlay Division for seven years, along with several other positions in the organization. I then moved to the field of hospital social work, where I served as both a discharge planner at Blanchard Valley Regional Hospital and as a social worker at Creighton Dialysis Unit here in Findlay. I am currently a mental health psychotherapist at Mind Body Health Associates in Findlay, Ohio.  I feel my 30+ years of clinical experience lends itself well to the classroom in providing my students with up-to-date knowledge and real-life social work experience.

My current research focus is working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, veterans, and those dealing with grief issues.  I am a Certified Organizational Advisor as well as having certifications in EMDR and Grief Recovery, which also lend themselves to both practice and working with students in the classroom.
